Yard Long Giants

Planting Depth: 1 inch

Spacing: 12 inches

Days to Germination: 7-10

Days to Maturity: 60-75

Sun: Full

This is not a garden oddity. We actually grew these pole beans from seed this year. They're called "Yard Long Giants." They're an oriental favorite with incredible tenderness and surprising sweetness. But best of all, they are stringless beans and they produce all summer long. With proper support, they can easily grow to more than 2 feet in length.

Six feet of trellising is suggested for support, but we found that tying three 6-foot wooden stakes together at the top like a teepee works great and allows the plants to climb naturally. The giants continue to produce as long as they're continually harvested when they're green, like snap beans. But when mature pods are left on the vine, production halts. Their root system is shallow, so water and weed often. And don't forget to harvest frequently to maintain a steady supply.
